The Artistic Director

Timothy Darwin Socha was born in Bakersfield, California. He grew up in Ohio and studied music at the University of Denver, Colorado. He has lived in Switzerland since 1970.

Tim is a singer, director, producer, voice coach, choir director, conductor, composer, arranger, administrator and project planner, and has appeared in concerts, musicals and operas in the USA and subsequently in Europe.

Tim was director of the Music School Risch-Rotkreuz from 1981 to 2012. He has been choir director of the Roman Catholic Church in Rotkreuz since 1981, and was the Cantonal Music Director of the Roman Catholic Church Music Association (Katholischer Kirchenmusikverband) of the canton of Zug and also their representative in the Diocese for ten years.

Tim studied at the Musikhochschule Zürich (formerly the Konservatorium) and at the Musikhochschule Luzern (formerly the Akademie für Schul- und Kirchenmusik). He completed further courses with the VMS (Verband Musikschulen Schweiz) and with the Gemeinde Rotkreuz.

Tim has directed musicals such as "Anatevka" (Fiddler on the Roof), “Little Shop of Horrors” and “Smokey Joe’s Café”  in Rotkreuz, “South Pacific”, "The Sound of Music" with the English Theatre Group of Zug, and his own productions such as "3 Devas" and "Music for the Heart”, with programs of songs and arias from musicals and opera performed by solo singers, choir and orchestra.

Tim founded the young adult chorus "Gaia Earth Voice" which has had remarkable concert success at home and abroad.

Over the years he has continued to study singing privately, and is currently studying with Margaret Chalker (former soloist with the Opernhaus Zürich). His own voice students have appeared in numerous concerts over the years.

In 2014, 2015 and 2016 he attended master classes in the Liszt/Wagner orchestral conducting method in Sherborne, England.

His aim is to continue working with talented singers and instrumentalists with projects which will provide enriching experiences for all participants.

Tim has always had three different directions in his life: academic and artistic pursuits, outdoor life and esoteric studies. This could be roughly interpreted as mind, body and spirit. It is his belief that to excel means to develop all three areas coupled with a sense of moral responsibility. To find out more about Tim’s ideas and experiences, especially those in the Arctic, go to Tim Socha (under construction).
